Promthep Cape is a windswept promontory that juts into the Andaman Sea at the southernmost tip of Phuket, it is regarded as one of the most beautiful spots in Phuket, located at the southernmost point of Phuket Island and offering a spectacular view of the sea and coastline.
At sunset Promthep Cape becomes a very popular point with hordes of tourists all descending on the same space in hopes of capturing a beautiful sunset. Huge colourful buses unload a horde of daily tourists hungry for a picture and the place starts buzzing. Once done with your sunset photo, there are only two things left to do: a bit of touristy shopping if you like stuff made of shells or ‘I love Phuket’ tee shirts or, have diner Al Fresco at Promthep Restaurant.
Getting to Promthep Cape is easy from almost any hotel with a car hire or if you are feeling very adventurous hire a motorcycle for the day as coming from the north of the island the roads are fantastically smooth and windy with scores of small beaches and things to see along the way. Just be careful and remember if you are going for to see the sunset it will be dark on the way back! Or if you are staying in the north end of the island use the opportunity to explore Rawai which is only another 5-10 minute ride from the cape.
